Vigilant inspection teams prevent a major drug trafficking attempt through air cargo

Dubi: Dubai Customs have thwarted an attempt to smuggle 1.2 tonnes of psychoactive drugs concealed within an air cargo consignment.
The illicit shipment was intercepted at the Emirate’s air cargo terminal, where specialised customs teams employed advanced data analysis techniques to flag the consignment for further inspection. Through meticulous scrutiny of the shipment’s contents and the use of cutting-edge security technologies, officers were able to uncover the concealed narcotics before they could enter the country.
The successful operation underscores the high level of alertness, vigilance, and expertise within the customs apparatus, effectively preventing illicit substances from entering the country and posing a threat to public safety.
Mind-altering substance
Leveraging advanced technologies and meticulous inspection protocols, Dubai Customs teams successfully identified and confirmed the presence of mind-altering substances within the consignment. Legal measures were swiftly initiated in coordination with the relevant authorities to ensure the case is handled in full compliance with the law.
Sultan bin Sulayem, DP World Group Chairman and CEO, and Chairman of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, highlighted the UAE’s unwavering commitment to combating the smuggling of illicit substances and protecting society from their dangers. Dr Abdulla Busenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, emphasised that the successful operation reinforces global efforts to combat organised smuggling networks. He noted that Dubai Customs has emerged as a global benchmark in tackling cross-border crimes, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in the fight against drug proliferation to safeguard public security and well-being. Dr. Busenad further stressed that strengthening national security is a collective responsibility, requiring seamless collaboration between individuals and institutions to uphold stability and prosperity. He reaffirmed that thwarting any attempt to breach laws or endanger community safety remains a fundamental pillar of national efforts to ensure a secure and sustainable environment for all.
