Dubai: An insurance broker walked into the wrong villa after a night of heavy drinking, a court heard.

The 27-year-old British broker was said to have been drinking at a pub in Sufouh before heading home in a taxi to his Safa villa.

The Briton walked into the wrong house and entered the sitting room where three girls were watching television on August 2.

“When I asked him why and how he entered my villa, the man said he jumped over the fence and walked directly into the sitting room by mistake. Obviously he was heavily drunk… he pushed me and tried to walk away,” said the villa’s Emirati owner.

Prosecutors charged the 27-year-old with consuming alcohol.

The Briton pleaded guilty when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance. The court fined the defendant Dh1,000.

Prosecution records cited the defendant saying that he went to the pub on a Friday evening and drank eight glasses of beer.

“I left the pub and took a taxi. Then I found myself inside one of the villas in the Safa area. I don’t know how I entered the villa because I was very drunk. Then someone assaulted me in the front yard shortly before the police came and took me to the station for questioning,” said the Briton.

The Emirati man said he woke up around 3.25am when he heard his daughters screaming.

“They were shouting loudly. I rushed out to the sitting room and saw the British man on his way out… meanwhile my 18-year-old son was following him. The man claimed that he climbed the villa’s fence and walked into the sitting room by mistake. My girls were scared and shouted at the man once they saw him in the sitting room,” said the villa owner.

Prosecution records did not mention why the Briton was only accused of consuming liquor.
