Drug awareness campaign to start next week

NRC hopes to address dangers of drug abuse through awareness campaign

Last updated:

Abu Dhabi: The National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) today announced that a drug awareness campaign which aims to educate the public on the risks and dangers of drug use as well as treatment and rehabilitation, will be launched next week, in partnership with Abu Dhabi Police, to mark World Drug Day.

Dr Hamad Al Gaferi, NRC Director-General, said, “We find that World Drug Day is a chance for us to bring the community together to raise awareness of this major issue, how drugs affect family relationships, socio-economic status and, most importantly, one’s health.

“We recognise that drug abuse and rehabilitation is a social stigma, so we decided that if people find it difficult to come to us for help or to find out more about what we do, we’ll go to them. We are taking this opportunity to give the public our support, and anyone who speaks with us does so in strict confidence.”

Activities, which include screening of films and documentaries on the history of drugs, drug abuse and its harmful effects, will be open for the public between June 22 and 26 at NRC stands which will be set up at Marina Mall and Dalma Mall.
