Last updated:

Abu Dhabi: A GCC national was sent to life in prison and fined Dh50,000 for possessing drugs with the purpose of promoting and using the narcotics, the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court ruled.

The defendant was also charged with illegally owning the substances and was also asked to pay an additional Dh6,000 in fines.

Authorities obtained information about the defendant’s narcotics possession and after searching his home found three kilograms of hashish, less than 0.25 kilograms of heroin and 431 strips of Tramadol, as well as a bullet.

The defendant then confessed to possessing the drugs and said that he had bought them from another GCC national for Dh40,000 with the aim of abusing them, adding that he had been an addict for more than eight years.

The defendant also told authorities that he had owned the bullet for several years and had forgotten about its presence in his home.

The forensics report revealed that traces of heroin, morphine, codeine and two other drugs were found in the defendant’s urine sample. The report also showed that the bullet found in the defendant’s home could be used and is therefore considered ammunition, which should not be obtained without a license.
