Sharjah: Sharjah Police have warned the public not to follow or spread rumours on social media, while highlighting relevant UAE laws against the practice.

On its social media channels, Sharjah Police on Friday posted a public awareness message urging residents not to follow fake news. The post highlighted Article 52 of UAE Federal Law No. 34 of 2021 on countering rumours and cybercrimes.

Those found guilty of disturbing public order by spreading “provocative news” shall be punished by one year imprisonment and a minimum Dh100,000 fine, the law says.
