Sharjah: Police are searching for a woman who dumped a dead baby in a landfill in Al Saja’a area of Sharjah on Monday morning, a Sharjah Police official told Gulf News.

The body of a newborn was found wrapped in a piece of cloth and dumped in the landfill.

A police official said the body was found by municipal workers doing their regular rounds of collecting waste from bins in the area.

The body was found around 12pm and then taken to Al Qasimi Hospital and later to the forensic laboratory for an autopsy.

The case is with Al Saja’a police station who have launched an investigation.

The Sharjah Police official said that they were cooperating with the authorities concerned to identify the mother.
