Cabbie jailed for relieving himself in public

Dubai: A taxi driver has been jailed for nine months for public lewdness and assaulting the roommates of a woman who took an issue with the cabbie for relieving himself in public.

The 27-year-old Pakistani driver, M.K., was said to have parked his taxi under the building and stepped out to urinate when the Filipina woman, S.M., saw him while standing in her balcony in February.

When the driver refused to stop what he was doing, S.M. was said to have removed her shoe and hurled it towards M.K.

When the shoe hit the windshield and shattered the glass, according to prosecution records, M.K. was so angered he turned up towards S.M. and scolded her.

Afterwards he asked his friends to go up with him to the flat to assault S.M., but instead they bumped into her two Moroccan roommates and attacked them with a pocketknife and a screwdriver.

Prosecutors accused the driver of committing an act of lewdness.

He was also charged with assaulting the roommates. Meanwhile, the Filipina was charged with wrecking the glass.

The Dubai Misdemeanours Court jailed M.K. six months for urinating in public. He was also jailed three months and fined Dh2,000 for assaulting the roommates.

The Filipina was fined Dh2,000.

According to Thursday’s ruling, the Pakistani will be deported following the completion of his punishment.

When the driver showed up in court, he admitted that he urinated in public but denied the charge of assaulting the roommates.

S.M. confessed that she hurled her shoe at M.K. because he refused to stop peeing and shouted at her.

Court records said Dubai Police were reported about a stabbing incident inside a flat that took place in Al Mutainah around 1.30am.

A police patrol was dispatched to the flat where one man was found injured in his belly and chest meanwhile the other was injured in his armpit.

One of the injured men claimed to police he and his countrymen shared the flat.

“I was sleeping when I heard loud noises coming from the sitting room. When I went out to check what was happening, I spotted three Pakistani men armed with a knife and screwdrivers assaulting my countryman. When I tried to stop them, they assaulted me as well,” claimed the witness.

Another man testified that he was in the restroom when the Pakistani trio stormed into the flat surprisingly and attacked him for unknown reasons.

Police identified M.K. after the Filipina provided them with his plate number.

Thursday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
