Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police are planning on introducing a new DNA device to be used as a portable forensics lab as it gives analysis results within 90 minutes of inserting the DNA sample into the system.
Lt Colonel Maryam Al Qahtani, Director of Criminal Biology Department at the Criminal Evidence Department of Abu Dhabi Police, said that the device, which is expected to be set up soon, uses computer chips allowing experts to insert samples directly into the system in a procedure that used to take one week to get a result.
The expert stated that the device could be transported in a vehicle and used in crime scenes and police stations as it does not require special arrangements as the current device does.
Al Qahtani said victims can be identified in case of disasters as experts can compare their DNA samples to those of their relatives using the device.
