Abu Dhabi

A total of 123 abandoned vehicles were removed recently by the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City.

In addition, 186 tickets were also issued to vehicle owners who had left their cars for sale in public places, the Municipality announced on Tuesday.

The action was taken during an inspection campaign that covered the suburbs of Bani Yas, Shamkha, Khatm, Al Wathba, Shakhboot City and Al Shawamekh. A number of the impounded vehicles were lorries, trucks and mini buses that had been left dirty for a long period of time. Municipal inspectors issued three-day notices for removal or cleaning, and then impounded those that had still not been cleaned.

According to the Municipality, a Dh3,000 fine is applicable for abandoned vehicles while putting up cars for sale invites a Dh1,000 fine. Repeat offences double the applicable fine that has not yet been paid, and there are also daily charges for owners of impounded vehicles if they do not collect them.
