The fifth course on Arab Manuscript Restoration will be held at the Juma Al Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage, starting March 3, in coordination with the Cairo-based Arabic Manuscript Institute.

The opening ceremony of the one-month-long course will be held at 10 am and will be attended by Juma Al Majid, chairman of the centre.

The course will tackle issues related to manual, chemical and mechanical manuscript restoration skills and the art of binding Arabic and Islamic manuscripts.

It will also give participants an opportunity to get acquainted with the way of processing marmoreal papers that are used in Islamic and Arabic manuscript binding, and preparation of paper used for restoration work. In addition, they will have a chance to exchange experiences and ideas.

Dr. Jasim Mohammed Jirgees, Assistant Director General of the Centre, explained that this course aims at strengthening cooperation between Arab countries in the field of processing Islamic and Arabic manuscripts.

A number of participants from Jordan, Algeria, Palestine, Libya, Egypt and the UAE will take part in the course.
