As International Baccalaureate (IB) students, we are taught to be principled, caring, and open-minded. We are told to rise above our limitations and accomplish something in the world — to break through the restricting walls of the classroom and see what is happening with our own eyes.

What we saw was not too great — we saw poverty, famine, and thirst. Beyond the world of luxury we live in, lies a world full of people in need.

Many students wait until after college to make a difference, but not us. A team of students decided to embrace the philosophy of the IB.

Instead of just going on and on about what we plan to do, we chose to take action.

We came across a new campaign launched by Dubai Cares that seeks to help children all around the world.

Guided by our supervisors and encouraged by our teachers at the Universal American School of Dubai (UAS), we created the UAS Dubai Cares Team.

Throughout the upcoming year, we intend on hosting a number of various events to raise funds that will be donated to Dubai Cares.

We intend to organise a number of bake sales over the next few months and are currently planning a big carnival, in March.

We need help hosting the carnival, specifically with managing decorations and the booths, supervising different activities and judging the contests.

The team consists of 15 hardworking students from eight different nationalities and backgrounds.

All of us are aiming for the same goal, which is to make a difference in the world.

The team accepts and appreciates all kinds of help, be it sponsorships, monetary donations or volunteers. We can be contacted on dcuast@gmail.com.
