The safety of future generations must form a fundamental part of global environmental strategies.
This was highlighted by students participating in a summer programme organised by the Sharjah Environmental and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA).
The students issued their call during a meeting at the Emirates Volunteers Association yesterday.
They intend to submit the message to the World Environment Summit and Sustainable Development due to be held in South Africa from August 26 to September 4.
They said there is a strong need to take into consideration the rights of the young generations when drawing up national developmental strategies for environment protection.
This would only reflect a real intention to secure a healthy and safe living for the coming generations, they added.
They also pointed out the importance of involving all local sectors in environmental endeavours.
The students praised His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, for his continued support to youth educational programmes.
The students thanked the authority for providing this summer programme, which involved useful ecological lectures and visits.
They also formed a committee to stay in contact with the authority to ensure they and more students join environmental activities in the future.
