The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) and the National Geographic Channel (NGC) have tied up to promote conservation by using each other's strengths and experience.
A tie-up with the Indian Mountaineering Foundation was initiated by the NGC early this year with a programme called the Way of Life that led to the channel getting in touch with like-minded associations to promote the spirit of nature and adventure.
"With the experience of one of the oldest organisations, the NGC will be associated with the BNHS on the ground level and on air," an NGC spokesperson said.
On the ground level, it will extend through events like bird counts and nature walks by participating in the activities of BNHS to reach out to people and promote their cause.
Isaac Kehimkar of the BNHS said, "On November 14, which is celebrated as Children's Day, Gerry Martin, a herpetologist, will be coming to Mumbai on a snake trail and interacting with kids."
As a part of the Way of Life programme, NGC will build an on-ground society and look for and promote people who display the spirit of Exploration and Adventure across their four genres as NGC Adventurers.
The channel had earlier announced its first Adventurer, Martin, as representative of its Wild genre of programming. Now, NGC is looking at appointing at least three more Adventurers by next year.
The channel will work with these Adventurers on many dimensions, ranging from promoting their line of interest to the Indian viewer and supporting projects that will help expand the field that they work in. The channel's website will also have links to sites of these organisations.
