On-the-spot penalties will be handed out to offenders
Ajman: People who leave rubbish on the emirate’s beaches or in the desert will now face a fine of up to Dh10,000.
Ajman Municipality has started imposing the penalty under the directives of Shaikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Director of Ajman Municipality and Planning Directorate, to ensure that Ajman remains litter-free. The ruling specifically targets people who go to such areas during the weekend and holidays but never bother to clear up before they leave.
According to Khalid Moin Al Hosani, executive director of public health and environment at the municipality, this decision will take effect immediately to protect the environment and preserve nature. He said there will be a special boat to clean up the beaches.
“The boat will monitor the beaches to make sure that they are clean,” he said.
He said municipality inspectors will keep a close eye on the public, especially during the holidays, to ensure they adhere to the rule.
Those who break the rule will face a stiff penalty by paying Dh10,000 even if they leave a plastic bag or can.
“We will keep the desert and the beach beautiful and clean,” he said.
An on-the-spot fine will be issued to offenders.
The civic body will list what constitutes a violation at the entrance to beaches.
“We want people to cooperate with us in keeping the beaches and deserts well-maintained and beautiful,” he said.
Complaints have previously been raised by the public about people misusing beaches.
