The king of Thailand, Bhumibol Adulyadej, has scheduled a meeting with Philippines President Gloria Macapgal-Arroyo on May 9, the last leg of her two-day working visit in Bangkok, a foreign affairs source said.

Among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), the royalty of Thailand holds a unique position as it is the only government and culture that was never occupied by a foreign government.

Another highlight of Arroyo's Bangkok visit is the signing of a bilateral treaty for convicted prisoner transfer arrangements between Thailand and the Philippines.

Arroyo is also seeking joint venture partnerships with Thai firms. She will be meeting with the Filipino community in Thailand.

Arroyo will hold talks with Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on issues such as the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, which was initiated by Thailand last year.
