Dubai-based Al Yaquob Group claims to have acquired a major stake in Intercontinental Hotel Kabul along with Afghan Government and the internatonal chain.
The deal was signed between Al Yaquob Group and the Afghan Government delegation recently in Dubai.
While the Afghan Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Dr Zalmai Rassoul signed on behalf of the Afghan Government; on the other side was D.S. Al Yaquob, chairman of Al Yaqoob group.
The Afghan minister said, "We are pleased to see investments coming from the Gulf in the rehabilitation of Afghanistan and the development of its infrastructure.
"It strengthens our hope that the international community will uphold its promise to assist us in our efforts."
Al Yaquob noted that his group is proud to be part of the development of Afghanistan's hospitality sector, especially, the Intercontinental Hotels chain.
He added, "Afghanistan has become the focal point of business following the prevailing stable environment in the country. For us, it is a quantum leap towards investing in the leisure and hotel industry in Afghanistan."
