Tawam Hospital in Al Ain will become the first health facility under the General Authority for Health Services (GAHS) to teach and train medical staff in coordination with the UAE University.

The plan was announced after a meeting between Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Economic Department and the GAHS, and a delegation of Harvard University, headed by Prof. Robert Cron, President of the Harvard Medical International.

After visiting the hospital and evaluating its facilities, the delegation expressed its support for the plan. Officials said the American delegation will do research and further discuss with the authority how to implement the plan.

Further details will be provided after GAHS' final decision on the issue.

"Sheikh Hamed discussed with the delegates the possibility of transforming the hospital into a training and teaching institute affiliated to the UAEU, since both institutions have a long experience in these fields," said Mohammed Butti Al Qubaisi, Director of the office of Sheikh Hamed at the GAHS.

In the second phase, the delegation will visit all the hospitals supervised by the authority. The visit is a result of the authority's efforts to develop relations with international organisations committed to educate and train medical staff.
