Al Ain: South African Amy Shaw of the Goodyear Eagles aerobatic team set a world record at the 10th Al Ain Aerobatic Show for the first-ever female para-jumper to deploy a dual inverted para-drop.
Shaw’s stunt was performed as the Goodyear Eagles’ aircraft, flying at speeds of 380-400 km/h, took her to 2,500 feet and then flew straight down while inverting at around 100km/h. Shaw dived out and opened her parachute within five seconds, landing in front of the royal chalet near the grandstand.
“Flying and doing this stunt over the desert has truly been amazing for me,” remarked Shaw immediately after the team’s breath-taking performance. “It’s an adrenaline rush that makes for an unbelievable experience.”
Meanwhile, there was a unique performance presented by the Indy Boys Jet School Bus. As its name implies, this performance involved a school bus fitted with an F-16 jet engine that blew out huge fireballs and unburned fuel smoke as it sped across the tarmac in front of a spell-bound audience at a top speed of 322km/h.
The engine boasted 48,000 horsepower and 21,000 pounds of thrust.
The show runs until Monday.
