Dubai: Adopt-A-Camp initiative and The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry will host the Ramadan Care Packages event at Dubai World Trade Centre on July 27-28.

The event will coincide with The Emirati Humanitarian Work Day, which is in remembrance of the late UAE President His Highness Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan on Ramadan 19, which will fall on July 28.

The event aims to attract volunteers who will help collect and pack 5,000 boxes of personal care items, which will later be distributed at a labour camp.

Last year the event attracted over 1,400 people, who managed to put together 3,000 packages, in response to a message spread by word of mouth and posted on social networking sites.

This year the number of volunteers is expected to increase significantly.

Adopt-a-Camp has been working with labourers in labour accommodation for eight years and currently has 50 camps and over 43,700 men under its wing.

Hamad Bu Amim, Director General of Dubai Chamber said, “At Dubai Chamber, we cannot think of a better day than the Emirati Humanitarian Work Day, to organise our major humanitarian initiative of Adopt-a-Camp which brings cheer to the lives of thousands of labourers in the emirate.”

He added that the charity event is part of the Dubai Chamber Ramadan Festival, which aims to promote healthy living, business networking, family entertainment and community welfare.
