Sharjah: Police have arrested three suspected porn peddlers caught with 5,000 banned sex movies at their Sharjah residence.

The Pakistani men, all living illegally in the UAE, were caught by Criminal Investigations Department officials following a tip off they were selling porn CDs in Al Mireigah area.

The sexually explicit stash is much larger than usually founded by law enforcement agents.

The collection is thought to have a street value of roughly Dh75,000, based on the average price of such CDS at Dh15 per movie.

Following the tip off this week, police formed team to track down the suspects and later arrested them.

Police investigations revealed the suspects were selling the CDs in areas where “bachelors” live as well as in some residential areas.

Police found 5,000 ready-to-sell porn titles at the suspect’s home at the time of their arrest. They also recovered a number of high-tech movie-copying devices.

“This is an illegal act and the law will punish anyone caught practising it, as it also relates to copyright infringement,” a police official said.

He added that Sharjah Police deals with two or three porn peddling cases a month.

Door-to-door peddlers, often women, are usually found doing their rounds in residential buildings.

Sharjah Police is keen on protecting the youth from becoming targets of porn peddlers, an official said.

He urged the public to report such illegal activities on dedicated numbers 800151 or 06-5632222, or through texting 7999.
