30 Rotary Club members receive fellowships
Dubai: Dozens of kind-hearted members of the Rotary Club of Dubai have been rewarded for their generosity to good causes.
Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Patron of the rotary club, presented Paul Harris Fellowships - given out to those making large donations - to more than 30 club members.
The presentation came after a busy year for the Rotary Club of Dubai which has seen it give financial assistance to the rebuilding of Lebanon and other international projects.
Ahmad Al Banna, director of Dubai Rotary Club, said he was pleased so many members had dug deep for good causes.
"It shows the feeling of responsibility that the business community has towards the international community and demonstrates the importance of humanitarian aid," he said.
The Paul Harris Fellowship, named after the lawyer who founded the world's first Rotary Club, is presented to people who give $1,000 (Dh3,670) or more to Rotary International's Annual Programmes Fund.
Each new fellow receives a commemorative certificate, a Paul Harris Fellow pin and a medallion.
For additional donations, fellows are presented with a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow pin and additional ruby stones they can wear.
The fellows were presented with their certificates and badges at a ceremony at the Capitol Hotel in Bur Dubai this week.
The Rotary Club of Dubai has this year made donations to help an Ajman charity buy a minibus and has also provided financial assistance so that the Al Maktoum Teaching Centre could purchase teaching aids. It also bought generators to help those living in southern Lebanon overcome the electricity shortage that followed the recent conflict with Israel.
