1,984 samples of gems and jewellery tested

Dubai: To ensure that gems and precious metals traded in Dubai are to the highest standards the Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL), managed by Dubai Municipality, regularly tests samples of jewellery.

This year alone the DCL tested 1,984 samples of different varieties of gems and jewellery and issued reports about their quality.

The lab provides several services including checking the purity of gold, silver and platinum jewellery and coins, its hallmarking with the official mark, in addition to examination of all types of gems.

Eng. Hawa Bastaki, Head of DCL, said that their labs use the most advanced equipment and technologies to confirm the quality of gems and precious metals traded in the emirate, making Dubai one of the most trusted city for the trade of precious metals, especially gold.
