She is my wife, Afghanistan star all-rounder Rashid Khan confirms second marriage

Dubai: Afghanistan’s star cricketer Rashid Khan recently found himself at the centre of social media buzz after being spotted with a woman during a charity event in the Netherlands. Photos from the event quickly went viral, sparking widespread speculation about a possible “secret marriage.”
The image, taken at the launch of the Rashid Khan Charity Foundation, showed the Afghanistan T20I captain seated beside a woman dressed in traditional attire. As fan theories flooded social media, Rashid finally addressed the rumours.
Taking to Instagram, the celebrated leg-spinner confirmed that the woman in the viral pictures is his wife, revealing that the couple got married in August this year. Sharing a series of wedding photos, Rashid wrote:
“On August 2nd, I began a new and meaningful chapter of my life. I had my nikkah done and married a woman who embodies the love, peace, and partnership I always hoped for.”
He went on to clarify that his wife had accompanied him to the charity event, adding,
“It’s unfortunate to see assumptions being made from something so simple. The truth is straightforward — she is my wife, and we stand together with nothing to hide.”
While Rashid refrained from disclosing his wife’s identity to respect her privacy, rumours have continued to circulate online, with one viral post claiming that Afghan model Layloma is the woman in question.
This marks Rashid’s second marriage. His first took place in October 2024, when he wed his maternal cousin in a grand ceremony in Kabul. The celebration, which also saw his three brothers married, drew widespread attention in Afghan media. Among those in attendance were teammates Mohammad Nabi, Naseeb Khan, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
In his statement, Rashid also redirected focus toward his philanthropic work. Through his foundation, he continues to support initiatives in education, healthcare, and clean water access across Afghanistan, with plans to expand efforts in rural regions next year.
On the cricket front, Rashid is expected to be retained by Gujarat Titans (GT) ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction. However, he’ll be looking to bounce back from a disappointing IPL 2025 season, where he managed just nine wickets in 15 matches at an economy rate exceeding nine.
