Dubai: Bachelors overcrowding in Dubai buildings, illegal extensions made in villas and other violations will now be detected using a smart inspection system launched by Dubai Municipality.
The civic body is showcasing the Mohameti (My Task) app developed for its inspectors at the Gitex Technology Week 2018.
The smart inspection system that manages inspection workflow electronically is being used by inspectors of building, environment and public health and safety departments.
Developed by the GIS Centre of the Municipality, the app has helped inspectors to save time and to replace many tools that they otherwise needed to carry along for inspection visits, officials said.
The mobile app, which is also integrated with an external laser device called Spike, helps inspectors receive notifications about complaints from the public and assignments from their seniors.
“They can see the details of the places to inspect through his app, instead of visiting their offices to collect them. They don’t have to carry a GPS device, camera and booklet to locate the place and report the violations with photographs any more. All that can be done with this app,” said Mariam Al Muhairi, director of the GIS Centre.
The laser measurement scanner mounted on the smart phone helps the inspectors to make 3D measurement of the inspection site, she said.
“If the inspector sees there are many people living in a room, he can immediately get the measurement of the room with this device and see the number of occupants allowed as per the rules.”
Once a violation is reported, the notice can be issued to the violators (tenants/owners) via SMS and email.
The system keeps a trail of all violations, notices, fines issued and corrective measures taken, explained Lala Shaikh Mohammad Al Hoummaidi, principal GIS system analyst.
“Earlier, some people would complain that they did not receive any notice. Now, there will be proof in the system,” she said.
