Abu Dhabi: From Sunday, motorists of all UAE-registered vehicles can pay their parking fees in the Abu Dhabi emirate through  their mobile phones without the need to register with Mawaqif.

The service will facilitate motorists of non-Abu Dhabi registered vehicles to use the SMS service to pay parking fees in Abu Dhabi using their mobile phones.

Mawaqif is the paid parking system of Department of Transport (DoT) in the capital.

The new “Mobile Payment Method” through the SMS will include all vehicles registered in the UAE without prior registration with Mawaqif.

The new SMS service will be effective from Sunday, DoT said on Saturday.

However, the previous payment method where people had to pre-register with Mawaqif, will still work until an announcement is made regarding its future.

All vehicles can continue be to registered in the old Mawaqif system, DoT said.

Abu Dhabi’s city code has been changed for Abu Dhabi-registered vehicles to AUH from RED. Now motorists can type S for Standard Parking (Dh2 for one-hour parking) and P for Premium Parking (Dh3 for one-hour parking).

So, the new format for mobile parking is: city code, plate category, space, plate number, space, S or P, space and duration in hours. Motorists can send the parking SMS to 3009.

City codes are the following:

Abu Dhabi: (AUH5 00000 S1),

Dubai: (DXBA 00000 S1),

Sharjah: (SHJ1 00000 S1),

Ajman: (AJMB 00000 S1),

Umm Al Quwain: (UAQC 00000 S1),
