Sharjah: The University Hospital Sharjah (UHS) signed an association agreement on Monday with the South Korea’s Himchan Hospital to provide advanced spine and joint medical services at UHS.

The two hospitals teamed up to bring the expertise of Himchan in minimally invasive surgeries for spine and joint and related rehabilitation therapy to UAE.

The new surgical procedures include a reduced hospital stay, higher success rates than the traditional replacement surgeries, and higher patient comfort.

These unique services distinguishes the hospital from other health care providers in and around the region.

Chief executive officer and member of board of trustees of UHS, Ali Obaid Al Ali, said: “The University Hospital Sharjah has been a pioneer in bringing the latest medical technologies to the emirate and the region, and the collaboration with Himchan Hospital will strengthen Sharjah’s position as a premium health care destination across the GCC and the wider Mena region. We are very proud of this achievement and we are confident that, in the near future, we shall witness many new facilities.”

The University Hospital Sharjah aims to raise the quality of health care services provided in Sharjah, as well as the GCC region, by seeking association with hospitals from around the globe, like Himchan Hospital, who can offer specialised expertise that is not commonly found in the region. The primary purpose of bringing the Korean model of care to Sharjah is to provide patients with the highest international standards of health care, who might otherwise opt to travel abroad, for similar treatments.

Abdullah Ali Al Mahyan, chairman of Sharjah Health Authority and chairman of board of trustees, UHS said: “For UHS, this expansion has been a key strategy in the improvement of our facilities, as we aim to reinforce our presence in the region. Following the directives of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, UHS remains committed to offering the patients world-class treatment and care, and as such, this association will further motivate us to offer our patients the best value-added services, at a single location.”

For the past decade, UHS has built a solid reputation as a leading health care provider in the region, delivering exceptional treatment across multiple areas of care. This partnership not only cements the hospital’s position in the region, but also underpins its visionary outlook to improve care and treatment for its patients.

President of Himchan Hospital Lee Su-chan said: “Our collaboration with UHS, the leading health care facility in the UAE, is a natural fit, and provides Himchan Hospital with a rare and unique opportunity to set foot in the UAE region. We feel that we could not have partnered with a better entity, as UHS has always been a beacon of hope and inspiration.”
