■ The 30-day Dubai Fitness Challenge begins today, October 26

■ Action-packed event that aims to encourage 1 million residents make fitness not only a priority but a lifestyle.

■ Challenge urges people — from all walks of life — to commit to a minimum of 30 consecutive minutes of daily activity for 30 days. It aims to take Dubai one step closer to making it the most active city in the world


UAE citizens have begun the challenge in a burst of energy. Here's a look at how things kicked off.

 

You might have received a message from Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council which states: "I challenge you to join Dubai Fitness Challenge".

A link takes you to an app that can be downloaded to monitor your daily physical activity.

Today is the first of the 30-day challenge.

Joining would be fun and sure to boost your health too. Even Bollywood star even Shah Rukh Khan pitched in, urging people to join. 

 

 

As for the challenge activities, an opening carnival kicks off at Dubai Festival City – the Festival City Mall with a yoga session, an obstacle course, climbing wall, foot table tennis, Fifa World Cup activation, Tread Wall, Target Football, Cross Bar Challenge, dance, Zumba classes and more.

There will also be fitness classes of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muai Thai, boxing and MMA sessions. Kids can enjoy a trampoline, snookball and boot camp sessions. You can also witness a stunning firework display and a special show at Festival Bay.

Other fitness-based events around the city include the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge build-up ride today at Al Qudra Cycle Track at 6pm; entry fees Dh70 per person. The main challenge is in December.

Kite Beach is hosting the City Swim from 8am-10am.

■ The challenge is the flagship fitness initiative by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.

■ A full calendar spread across the city with two major Carnivals — the Dubai Festival City Opening Weekend Carnival and the Burj Park Closing Weekend Carnival.

■ More than 3,000 fitness sessions and classes have been scheduled along with more than 40 fitness events including Dubai International Triathlon, The Color Run and Yogafest

■ A host of community-led activities arranged to keep residents charged and motivated throughout the 30 days.

■ Inaugural Dubai Fitness Challenge ion 2017 saw a staggering 786,000 people of all ages and fitness levels commit to take on the challenge.

Government and corporate participants have accepted the challenge this year.
