Dubai: Did you know that the drive from Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed (MBZ) Road to Dubai’s airport is now only five minutes long?

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai released a video showing how the Deira-bound bridge at Marrakech Intersection, which was opened last Friday, has eased traffic on the road.

According to the RTA, the drive from MBZ Road to Dubai International Airport has been slashed from 30min to five.

With the new road works, the waiting time at Marrakech Intersection [adjacent to Emirates airline headquarters] has also been cut from seven minutes down to one minute – increasing the capacity of Airport Road by an additional 5,000 vehicles per hour.

The Marrakech Intersection project includes an overpass on the Airport Road, with three lanes in each direction, and a direct ramp from the bridge heading to Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport negating the need to wait at the traffic lights.

The intersection also includes construction of a two-lane tunnel to serve traffic heading left from Airport Road towards Marrakech.
