Dubai: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) has warned UAE passengers travelling to the Maldives, advising them to be vigilant and cautious.
On its official Twitter account, the MoFAIC said that Emiratis travelling to the Maldives should take precautions due to the political instability in the country.
The ministry also issued a travel advisory to Emiratis, urging them to call the 24-hour hotline number 800 44444 in the event of an emergency.
Passengers were reminded to sign up to the Tawajudi “my presence”, wherein Emiratis could register their locations while travelling, on a secure and confidential ministry website, which would allow the government to assist them in emergencies.

Political turmoil has affected Maldives since early February, when the Supreme Court ordered that a group of imprisoned opposition leaders, including exiled former President Mohammed Nasheed, be freed.
The government quickly pushed back against that order, eventually declaring a state of emergency and arresting the two Supreme Court justices and other politicians, according to AP.
A number of countries have also urged travellers to be cautious, including the governments of the US, China and India.
Despite a handful of protests in its capital, Male, the country remains stable and calm, and it is business as usual for UAE-Maldives flights.
