Sharjah: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, yesterday (Sunday) inspected a number of vital projects and road and infrastructure networks currently being developed in Al Shis.
Dr Shaikh Sultan was given a detailed briefing on progress achieved on the Sharjah-Khor Fakkan road project. He inspected progress on tunnels leading to Al Shis. The Al Gazir tunnel, which is 860 metres long, is currently 90 per cent complete. Dr Shaikh Sultan also inspected the 1,300-metre long Rugh tunnel.
The 87km Sharjah-Khor Fakkan road project, which passes through Al Shis, is one of the largest development projects in the emirate at a cost of Dh5 billion. Once completed, travel between the city of Sharjah and Khor Fakkan will take 45 minutes.
The Sharjah Ruler instructed project’s officials to take into consideration the safety of commuters, and to ensure providing safety measures on the sides of the mountainous road.
During his visit, Dr Shaikh Sultan called on people to preserve the beauty of the mountain environment through planting and landscaping the area around the sides of the road. He also ordered developing five agricultural areas on the sides of the road and provide them with all the services needed to allow visitors to enjoy the breathtaking views of the region.
Dr Shaikh Sultan also ordered the construction of a new bridge to complement the Khor Fakkan-Sharjah Road project in Al Weshah area, in addition to creating a crossing that serves the people of Maliha and Al Dhaid city.
Dr Shaikh Sultan later inaugurated and toured Shis Nursery in Khor Fakkan.
