Abu Dhabi: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, yesterday received ministers of Information in countries calling for combating terrorism.

He exchanged Ramadan greetings with Dr Awwad Saleh Al Awwad, Saudi Minister of Culture and Information, Dr Ali Mohammad Al Rumaihi, Bahrain’s Minister of Information Affairs and Makram Mohammad Ahmad, Head of Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation. Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Sultan Ahmad Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chairman of the National Media Council, were present at the meeting.

Jordan Crown Prince visits

He underlined the pivotal role the media plays in countering the speech of hate and extremist ideology.

Shaikh Mohammad highlighted the importance of countering terrorism by eradicating its deviating intellectual roots and uncovering the fake and misleading ideas promoted by terrorist organisations, which exploit the true and tolerant Islam in misleading youth in the region and Arab world.

“Fighting extremism and terrorism intellectually is no less important than fighting it militarily,” Shaikh Mohammad said.

“It is essential to develop pre-emptive strategies based on explaining the concepts of Islamic discourse that calls for peace and tolerance as well as for instilling hope and positivity in people.”

Shaikh Mohammad also received Crown Prince Hussain Bin Abdullah of Jordan. They exchanged Ramadan greetings and wishes of greater progress.
