Abu Dhabi: South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Sunday visited Wahat Al Karama, Abu Dhabi’s national and cultural landmark commemorating the UAE’s brave soldiers who lost their lives while serving the nation.

Moon arrived in Abu Dhabi on Saturday on a three-day state visit to the UAE.

He was welcomed by Shaikh Khalifa Bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Director of the Martyrs’ Families’ Affairs Office at the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court. The President then attended a guard of honour ceremony, and laid a wreath at Martyrs’ Monument, made up of 31 panels leaning on one another in a symbol of solidarity between the leadership, people and soldiers of the UAE.

Moon signed the memorial book, expressing his respect and appreciation for the brave martyrs of the UAE.

Meanwhile, Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, on Sunday received Kim Jung-sook, First Lady of the Republic of Korea.

Shaikha Fatima welcomed Kim, praising the strong relations between the UAE and Korea in various fields. She also briefed Kim on the high status reached by Emirati women, and their level of empowerment in all sectors, achieving greats strides in gender equality.

The First Lady praised the advanced level achieved by Emirati women and their presence in the work field in both the public and private sectors. She also said that she was very impressed by the significant efforts made by Shaikha Fatima to support women and children in the UAE.

The Korean First Lady noted that she had seen many reports praising UAE women’s progression as an active member of society and the concentrated actions taken by Shaikha Fatima to boost the Emirati women’s role, providing opportunities acquire education and access to health services, as well as encouraging and enabling them to work across all sectors.

Shaikha Fatima held a luncheon in honour of Kim Jung-sook which was attended by a number of Shaikhas, ministers and senior officials.

As part of her visit, Kim Jung-sook toured the Louvre Abu Dhabi and was briefed on its cultural and archaeological contents, which are a source of inspiration as the first international museum in the Middle East region reflecting the spirit of openness and dialogue between cultures.
