Abu Dhabi: A parliamentary retreat will be held by the Federal National Council (FNC) from January 23-25 to discuss its strategy during the 16th legislative chapter for 2015-2019, its vision and approaches.

The retreat, which will be chaired by Dr Amal Al Qubaisi, Speaker of FNC, will develop a comprehensive strategy and set a roadmap for the parliamentary performance focused on the best international practices in administration and parliamentary work.

The FNC’s retreat reflects the council’s keenness to promote its national role and its contribution to the comprehensive and balanced development in a manner that support the UAE’s achievements in all domains and its foreign policy.

Al Qubaisi added that a comprehensive strategy for the council will be developed for the first time since the establishment of the council.

“We will develop the FNC’s overall strategy in order to draw up a road map for the parliamentary performance while focusing on the best management and parliamentary practices, she said.

Al Qubaisi continued, “The strategy aims to build a comprehensive integration, constructive cooperation and strong coordination between the legislative and executive authorities. It also aims to promote political participation and achieve a broader community participation and the best channels of communication locally and internationally, so as to achieve sustainable development.”

The strategy will be based on the political empowerment launched by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Al Qubaisi said that the strategy will keep up with the developed strategic changes in all fields locally, regionally, and globally, especially the changes in the performance of legislative institutions.

It will also take into consideration the future changes in the legislative and regulatory level to lay down plans to cope up with them.

She highlighted that the core of the strategy was inspired by the political empowerment programme launched by Shaikh Khalifa in 2005. It adopted some of its basics such as making the FNC an effective representative of the UAE people and adhering to the UAE’s issues and the vision of its wise leadership.

Developing the performance of the council should be in line with the nature of UAE society and its vision while keeping updated to the world’s changes and developments, Al Qubaisi concluded.
