Abu Dhabi: Emirati political science experts have described the relations between the UAE and the US as vital, strategic and strong.

They added that the meeting between His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and US President Donald Trump will lead to more political and diplomatic coordination regarding regional issues.

The experts said such strong relations come in light of the US’s interest in the experience of the UAE, which presents an inspirational role model in various fields of development, economy and foreign policy. They added that this explains the keenness of any new US administration in directly and quickly engaging with the UAE.

In statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the experts said the US sees the UAE as an effective partner in combating terrorism and extremism, and as a model for moderation. They pointed out that the US appreciates the UAE for the role it plays in achieving security, regional peace and international stability, in addition to its humanitarian efforts in different parts of the world.

Dr Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, chairman of Hedayah Centre, said the UAE is well aware that the US plays an indispensable role in addressing current challenges in the region, and it knows that it has to work with the US to establish a positive course for the Middle East by strengthening regional security, achieving economic prosperity and confronting urgent challenges around the world.

Al Nuaimi clarified that the UAE believes that terrorism and extremism have no religion or identity, and that the groups that raise bogus slogans do so just to conceal their criminal nature in spreading chaos, destruction and ruin.

Ahmad Mohammad Al Jarwan, member of the Federal National Council and former Speaker of the Arab Parliament, said the timing of Shaikh Mohammad’s visit clearly reflects the diplomatic and political status that the UAE occupies on a global level.

Al Jarwan added that the discussions held between Shaikh Mohammad and Trump, a few days prior to the US president’s historic visit to Saudi Arabia, gives it a deep strategic dimension. He said the discussions emphasise the magnitude of global appreciation for the vision and wise political stands of Shaikh Mohammad, and his deep understanding of challenges facing the region.

“Without a doubt, the visit also reaffirms the impact of joint stands between Abu Dhabi and Riyadh regarding regional issues. At the forefront of these issues is Iranian interference, followed by the Yemeni, Syrian and Iraqi dossiers,” said Al Jarwan.
