Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi has revised water and electricity tariff with effect from January 1, 2017.
The amended tariff will reflect the actual cost of supplying water and electricity to all categories of customers in line with the emirate’s natural resources conservation policy, according to an announcement made by the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) along with Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC) and Al Ain Distribution Company (AADC).
“Sustainability and encouraging people to reconsider their consumption behaviour of water and electricity are part and parcel of the fundamental principles of the emirate’s growth for the benefit of the future generations,” ADWEA said in a press release issued on Thursday.
The electricity tariff for expatriates living in apartments will be 26.8 fils per kWh (kilowatt-hour) in the green band that has a limit up to 20 kWh per day. If they exceed the green band limit, they will move to red band costing 30.5 fils per kWh.
The power tariff for expatriates living in villas will be 26.8 fils per kWh in the green band (up to 200 kWh/day). If they exceed the limit, they will be in red band that costs 30.5 fils per kWh.
For water, expatriates living in apartments will pay Dh7.84 per 1,000 litres in the green band (up to 700 litres per day) and Dh10.41 per 1,000 litres in the red band.
The water tariff for expatriates living in villas will be Dh7.84 per 1,000 litres in green band (up to 5,000 litres a day) and Dh10.41 per 1,000 litres in red band.
The electricity tariff for Emiratis living in villas will be 6.7 fils per kWh in the lower green band (up to 400 kWh per day) and 7.5 fils per kWh in red band.
For water, emirates living in apartments will pay Dh2.09 per 1,000 litres in the green band (up to 700 litres per day) and Dh2.60 per 1,000 litres in the red band.
Premises without water meters will attract a fixed charge of Dh150 for each month.
The electricity tariff for commercial entities will be 20 fils per kWh and 4.5 fils per kWh for agricultural facilities.
Light industrial customers will pay 28.6 fils per kWh, and large industrial users (above 1MW (megawatt) connected load) will pay 36.6 fils per kWh during the summer peak hours and 27 fils per kWh during other seasons.
Government entities will pay 29.4 fils for each kWh and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and its subsidiaries will pay 28.1 fils for each kWh.
The water tariff for commercial and industrial customers will be Dh7.84 per 1,000 litres, while the government entities and Adnoc will pay Dh10.41 per 1,000 litres. Agricultural customers will pay a rate of Dh3.13 per 1,000 litres while supply via tanker filling stations will charge Dh4 per 1,000 litres.
ADDC and AADC earlier launched the Demand Side Management (DSM) programme called “Tarsheed” (Conservation and Efficient Use of Water and Electricity) to encourage customers to use water and electricity efficiently. The programme is aimed at educating the public on how to adopt the best conservation practices and technologies and to maintain them on regular basis to ensure their operational efficiency.
The bills issued to customers in the residential category include detailed information about ideal consumption shown in green band, and inefficient consumption in red band.
