Dubai: Roughly 1.75m passengers crossed the Hatta border in 2017, said Dubai Customs on Monday.

Customs officers posted at the checkpoint recorded more than 152,000 declarations and carried out 3,904 seizures.

Mohammed Al Muaini, Director of Land Customs Centres Management at Dubai Customs said Hatta border crossing plays a major role in enhancing trade and passenger movement between Dubai and Oman and has become a main point for land transport.

Al Muaini said that Hatta’s border is important due to the services and facilities it offers to passengers and traders moving goods and trucks.

“Hatta Border Post has become one of the most important border crossings linking UAE with Oman and Oman with the rest of the GCC region. Thanks to the most advanced services and facilities provided at the border crossing, the movement of passengers and goods traffic is now smooth and streamlined,” he said in a statement.

Al Muaini said these efforts are an integral part of Dubai Customs vision to support legal trade and save the society from restricted and prohibited goods.

An advanced electronic clearance system is in place and the centre, which uses the latest container scanning systems in cooperation with the Technical Support Department of Dubai Customs.

The crossing, he said, reflects the bright face of Dubai being a modern city that provides the best customer services and at the same time highest levels of security and safety.

Seizures and infractions at Hatta border in 2017 included 699 drugs, 169 weapons and their parts, 71 people, 7 money cases, 25 CITES, 18 customs records, 86 documents, 8 electronic items, 4 gold and jewellery items, and 19 others.
