Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi City Municipality’s Downtown Municipal Centre, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Ports, Abu Dhabi Waste Management, Tadweer, and the Critical Infrastructure and Coastal Protection Authority, have carried out a joint campaign against eyesores marring the urban landscape of Hodariyat Island.

The campaign aimed at maintaining the appearance of the place, protect the maritime and beach environment, and provide a healthy place for visitors.

The campaign has removed and recovered different types of disfiguring elements. Items removed included 50 ageing boats, eight sunken boats, 13 steel pipes, six concrete blocks and two ageing disorderly buildings. Many other miscellaneous items and waste were removed including fishing nets, tyres, water bottles, wood pieces, and iceboxes among others.

Law No. 02 of 2012 governing the city appearance prohibits to practise any action that may distort or reflect negatively on the public view or public health in Abu Dhabi.
