Dubai: Dubai Courts Department (DCD) has taken a ground-breaking step in terms of legal excellence as it hosts the 6th Courts Excellence Conference for the first time in the region in December.

The two-day conference will address the pursuit of excellence in courts management in a technologically evolving world, said Dr Ahmad Bin Hazim Al Suwaidi, DCD’s Director General, on Sunday.

“This internationally renowned conference will help us evaluate DCD’s status and reputation compared to other worldwide courts in terms of management, strategies, expertise and enforcement of justice. The Grand Hyatt Hotel will host the conference in the context of the memorandum of understanding that was signed between DCD, the organisers of Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Initiatives for Legal Excellence, and in collaboration with Dubai International Financial Centre’s (DIFC) Courts and the International Association for Courts Administration (IACA) on December 9 and 10. Dubai will be the first to host this conference across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA),” Dr Al Suwaidi told a media gathering.

Judges, lawyers, justice officials, supreme courts’ managers, consultants and academicians from over 50 countries will convene in Dubai to initiate a comprehensive approach towards the various aspects of the legal and judicial community, Dr Al Suwaidi said.

Mark Beer, Judicial Registrar at DIFC Courts, said the participation of the regional and global judicial bodies in the conference lays emphasis on the global economic instability and its consequences on budgets and caseload and the local and global economic variables and other more complicated matters that influence courts’ work.

“Interestingly Dubai has become the number one hub of justice and commercial justice in MENA. This has been one of the focal points of attraction that convinced IACA to choose Dubai as the host for this international conference. This coming together of legal experts on this unique platform would undoubtedly contribute t the achievement of the desired objectives of the conference and facilitate exchange of experiences and knowledge-sharing that will enhance the reformulation of a futuristic vision for joint cooperation… a cooperation that will enhance the operational efficiency and institutional framework of courts and initiate a comprehensive approach to the various aspects of court management,” said Beer.

During Sunday’s gathering, Dr Al Suwaidi, who is the Chief of the Supreme Committee of Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Initiatives for Legal Excellence, launched the conference’s official website, www.courtexcellenceuae.com, that hosts detailed information on the conference agenda, sponsors, speakers, registration and other booking details.
