Abu Dhabi: The UAE will join 100 other countries at a three-day international conference on water sustainability starting in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on Wednesday (June 20).
The conference — International Decade for Action, Water for Sustainable Developments — will be attended by more than 1,000 delegates including diplomats, scientists and researchers. The conference aims to address some of the most pressing issues related to water security over the next decade and what policies can be enacted to deal with the challenge.
“The lack of natural water resources is a challenge for all of us, it is a challenge that cannot be tackled alone by one country,” said Bahodur M. Sharifi, Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Regarding the cooperation between the UAE and Tajikistan, he said the UAE has always been on forefront to support our initiatives related to tackling water security issues. A high-level UAE delegation will attend the conference of which it is a co-sponsor, he added.
Sharifi said he expected several positive developments to come out of the conference, noting the critical need for countries and organisations to come up with clear policies on water security.
“The conference aims to mobilise efforts of the governments, UN institutions, international and non-governmental organisations, as well as other parties at all levels for the implementation of the action plan of the decade to achieve internationally agreed water related goals.
