Dubai: The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) issued a circular to the local authorities to ensure that the country’s markets are free of Salmonella-contaminated eggs originated from a farm in the US state of North Carolina.

Entities responsible for implementing the circular include the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority and the municipalities of Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

The decision is based on the findings of an investigative report following the warning issued by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding illnesses traced back to Rose Acre egg production farm in Hyde County, North Carolina. Rose Acre Farms recalled over 200 million eggs from nine US states, in addition to nine countries, including the UAE.

The ministry asked the departments concerned not to provide import permits for eggs from Rose Acre Farms and Cal-Maine Foods, Inc if they carry the codes listed on the FDA website. The ministry urges UAE consumers not to eat any US-made eggs from the aforesaid farm that are subject to the recall, and encourages them to return them or get rid of them.

Consumers can get more information and view the codes and photos of the products by accessing FDA’s website through these links: https://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm604640.htm and https://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm604748.htm
