Dubai: The two Spanish crew members on the fatal flydubai flight FZ981 were both from the Canary Islands.
Alejandro Cruz Alava, the plane’s co-pilot, was born in 1979 in La Laguna, Tenerife. He previously worked for Binter and Naysa, two airlines based in the Canary Islands, and moved to Dubai in 2014 to work for flydubai, according to Spanish media reports. Xavier Alejandro Caro Curbelo, of Las Palmas on Gran Canaria, worked as a purser for flydubai.
They were on the flight from Dubai which crashed on approach to Rostov-on-Don, Russia, early on the morning of March 19. All 62 passengers and crew are confirmed to have died. Read more details or check out passengers' list
