Ras Al Khaimah: A young Emirati driver was killed instantly after his luxury vehicle smashed into a tree at high speed in Ras Al Khaimah, police told Gulf News on Saturday.

Police said the car was torn in two when it ran off a road in the emirate's Al Jazirah Al Hamra district early on Friday.

The horrific crash killed the 18-year-old victim, who lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree, said police.  

An emergency team was dispatched immediately to the site after police received an alert about the accident around 5.35am, said Colonel Ahmad Sum Al Naqbi, Director of Traffic and Patrols at Ras Al Khaimah Police. 

Police said the victim was driving at high speed and lost control of his vehicle and veered off the road before crashing into a tree.

As a result of the accident, the vehicle was cut into two parts, killing the young driver on the spot.

The body of the deceased was later handed over to his family for burial. The funeral prayer was held at Obeidallah mosque after Jumaa prayer and the victim was buried in Al Dahab cemetery.

Brigadier Dr Mohammad Saeed Al Humaidi, Director General of the Central Operations, urged motorists to abide by traffic rules and speed limits.
