8-year-old killed in Sharjah hit-and-run

Doctors can do nothing to save boy, as police track down and arrest driver of car within 3 hours

Sharjah: An Asian man has been arrested after a hit and run that killed an eight-year-old Asian boy in Sharjah.

Major Mohammad Alai Al Naqbi, Head of Traffic and Patrol Department at Sharjah Police, said the operation room received a call on Monday at 4pm saying an Asian boy had been run over and the driver who caused the crash had fled the scene.

The crash occurred in the Al Sabkha area of Sharjah.

The boy was moved to Al Kuwaiti hospital where he pronounced dead on arrival.

Maj. Al Naqbi said police tracked down the owner of the vehicle and arrested him despite having minimal information to work with.

Police managed to identify the driver within three hours of the incident. Maj. Al Naqbi said the driver was an Asian in his 30s. He was taken into custody at Al Wasit Police Station.

Maj. Al Naqbi urged residents to abide by traffic rules especially in residential areas where children are playing.
