Dubai — More than 12,800 students have been admitted in public higher education institutions in the UAE and abroad with foreign scholarships for the first semester of the 2018-2019 academic year.
The names of 12,854 students were approved by Dr Ahmad Abdullah Humaid Bel Houl Al Falasi, Minister of State for Higher Education and Advanced Skills.
Among them, 4,315 students have been admitted in the UAE University, 5,743 in the Higher Colleges of Technology and 1,735 in Zayed University. Some 430 students will study at the colleges and institutes affiliated to the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Training, while 316 have been admitted in Khalifa University and eight students in Mohammad V University – Agdal.
A total of 316 students were granted scholarships to study abroad, of whom 263 students will pursue bachelor programmes and 44 higher studies.
The minister congratulated the students on completing their high school and wished them greater success in pursuing higher education. He also congratulated the students who were admitted to institutions of higher education and stressed the importance of this time in their academic journey in shaping their future career paths.
Al Falasi urged the admitted students to carefully select their majors and academic disciplines in order to meet the UAE’s need for efficient national cadres capable of pressing ahead with progress and development in the country.
He highlighted the need for students to choose majors that would fulfil the country’s aspirations for being ranked among the leading nations in the fields of innovation, space science, medicine, engineering and entrepreneurship.
