Abu Dhabi: Two Arab residents have been arrested for assisting school students in cheating during examinations, the Abu Dhabi Police announced in a statement sent on Saturday.

The suspects, who are both university students, would receive questions from students sent through smartphone-based social media applications. They would then look up the answers online and provide the responses to students.

The suspects allegedly charged Dh500 to Dh1,000 per answer, setting the rates based on the subject matter and content.

Initially, the suspects, who are both male, offered their services only to a limited number of students. When they expanded their reach, the Criminal Investigation Department of Abu Dhabi Police got wind of the activities and began looking into them.

After being arrested, the suspects confessed to assisting students in examination fraud and using social media applications for their activities.

The police also called on authorities concerned to develop countermeasures that can enable the detection of cases of electronic fraud, and to establish strict measures during examinations to prevent cheating. They added that there is also a need to identify reasons and motives behind students resorting to cheating in school examinations.
