Ras Al Khaimah: Ras Al Khaimah Police on Wednesday launched a security surveillance system that will use artificial intelligence and be linked to 125,000 CCTV cameras installed across the emirate as part of the Himaya security project.
The system will use face recognition software to track wanted people and vehicles by comparing video and photo footage with files on its database.
“The digital security surveillance system is part of the Smart City project developed to adopt a future artificial security system,” said Major General Ali Abdullah Bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police, during a press conference held at the Ras Al Khaimah Police headquarters on Wednesday.
He also signed a memorandum of understading with G4S for technical security solutions.
The new system is expected to start operating later this year.
Maj Gen Al Nuaimi said: “The project will help increase the sense of security, reduce crime, traffic accident deaths, and speed up emergency response times.”
Brig Jamal Ahmad Al Tair, head of the General Resources Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said a specialised team has been formed to set standards for the installation and use of all cameras.
