Dubai: A conference on the latest trends in forensic science will open in Dubai on Sunday.

Under the theme ‘Digital Forensic Science,’ the three-day conference will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Topics discussed on the first day will include an overview of the Dubai police forensic services, wound ballistics, marijuana detection, and pathology.

Cutting edge-methods of crime scene reconstruction and forensic psychology in solving causes of suspicious child deaths will also be discussed. A parallel exhibition at the conference will host more than 80 companies that will display the latest forensic equipment. At least 50 students will also attend the conference to learn about the latest developments and scientific research in forensics.

“The emirate of Dubai is the first city in the [region] that organises such a specialised event of this nature that also includes workshops, training sessions and research,” said conference chairman Abdul Al Madani.

Al Madani added that the conference will attract experts from Asia, Africa, Europe and America in the field of forensics and criminology.

Dubai Police will invite faculty members and students to participate with their forensic and criminal science related research papers.

The emirate’s police also plans to work with universities to develop scientific curriculums that will help groom forensics specialists.
