Dubai: A signboard designer has been accused of biting off a chunk of his co-worker’s ear after the latter hurled a shoe at him, heard a court on Monday.
The 33-year-old Pakistani worker had fixed a signboard and returned to his residence that he shares with his 28-year-old compatriot signboard designer in June.
The designer asked his co-worker if he had collected the dues from the client for fixing the signboard, and the worker said no. In disbelief, the designer cursed his co-worker who got angry and hurled his shoe at the designer’s head.
According to the records, the two indulged in a heated argument and then traded blows before the worker bit the designer in his wrist and the latter chewed up the back of his ear.
Fellow flatmates stopped the fight and the worker was taken to hospital.
Prosecutors charged the designer of assaulting his countryman and causing him a 5 per cent permanent disfigurement in his ear.
The suspect pleaded guilty when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.
“We had a fight and he assaulted me first. He bit me and I bit him back,” contended the suspect before presiding judge Habib Awad.
The suspect told the court that he had reconciled with the 33-year-old, who was present in court to waive his complaint.
The co-worker testified to prosecutors that the incident happened once he returned to the residence.
“When he asked me if I had collected the balance, I told him no. He thought that I had lied to him and cursed me. I got angry and hit him on his head with my shoe. We fought and I bit his wrist, then he bit my ear,” he told prosecutors.
A ruling will be issued on October 29.
