A security guard has been accused of walking behind a nine-year-old girl in a residential complex and then groping her posterior, heard a court on Tuesday.

The nine-year-old Emirati girl was said to have entered a hypermarket in the complex with her schoolmate in March.

Then while she was returning home, a 31-year-old Pakistani security guard walked behind her, according to records, and then touched her posterior in an indecent way.

The surprised girl instantly turned towards the guard and yelled at him and then she told a woman, who was present in the area about what the Pakistani had done to her.

Records said the 31-year-old guard ran away and disappeared once the woman scolded him.

The Pakistani guard was apprehended near the complex at Dubai Investment Park shortly after the girl’s father reported the matter to the police.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of groping the minor girl.

The suspect pleaded guilty and admitted that he groped the girl when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Tuesday.

The Emirati father claimed to prosecutors that his daughter called him at 5.30pm and told him that she had been groped.

“My girl told me that she went to the hypermarket with her school friend … when they were walking back home, the suspect came and groped her from behind. She alleged to me that when she asked the suspect why had he touched her, he replied that it happened by mistake. My daughter informed a woman who was around and when the latter confronted the suspect, he ran away,” he testified to prosecutors.

A policeman claimed to prosecutors that the suspect was apprehended in the residential complex after the girl identified him on CCTV cameras.

A ruling will be heard on May 20.
