Dubai: A pedicurist beat up, insulted and threatened a policewoman at a police station when she was being taken for a breathalyser test, heard a court on Tuesday.
The policewoman was said to have been asked by her co-worker to handcuff the 24-year-old Moroccan pedicurist, who had been apprehended for consuming alcohol, and take her for a breathalyser test in another place in February.
Once the Moroccan was told by the policewoman that she had to be handcuffed and taken for the liquor test, according to records, she turned violent. She kicked the policewoman and then offended her and threatened to harm her as the latter was shackling her with the handcuffs.
Following a few minutes of unruly and violent behaviour with the policewoman, the Moroccan was finally restrained, handcuffed and taken for the breathalyser test.
Prosecutors accused the suspect of assaulting the policewoman and injuring her when she kicked the handcuffs. She was also accused of verbally threatening the policewoman and cursing her as well.
The suspect pleaded not guilty when she appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Tuesday.
“I did not do that … I am innocent,” the Moroccan contended before presiding judge Shaikha Hamad.
The policewoman testified to prosecutors that the incident happened after her co-worker asked her to handcuff the Moroccan and take her for an alcohol test.
“She behaved rudely and violently and refused to be handcuffed once she learnt that she had to be handcuffed and taken for a breathalyser test. She repeatedly kicked me on my leg and injured me … she pulled her hand away when I was putting the handcuff on her right hand and she beat me on my back. Then we handcuffed her hands behind her back and made her sit on a chair. Then she offended me and cursed me … she also threatened me by saying ‘I will show you, you wait and see what I will do to you’ and mentioned that she will sue me. Later on, she apologised for her behaviour and asked me to forgive her because she was not aware of her actions … she also offered she will kiss my feet to pardon her,” she claimed to prosecutors.
A ruling will be heard on June 26.
